Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a small, little town that is a bit sleepy. The West Island has a lot of different communities. People who have never heard of it often confuse it with a separate island facing west. The West Island is frequently referred to as being the place of birth for Amanda Brugel but while that is the case, her time there was not long. Brugel lived in Courtice close to Oshawa, Ontario. She was determined to be a professional dancer but because of a huge growth spurt she outgrew all of her dancing partners. According to an article in the Toronto Star, she revealed that she wore heels and was six feet and one inch tall. When I grew out of male companions at that point, I gave up. Many ex-dancers switch to acting. In Brugel's case it was because of the advice by her drama instructor at her high school which pushed her in the direction she wanted. The teacher recommended that she audition for an annual school play. It was her choice to take on the lead character in Anne of Green Gables after she auditioned for. It led to the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and graduated with the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. In the 20+ years since, Brugel has been offered roles in more than 60 productions on both small and large screens drawing the most media attention after she was offered the role of Rita on the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the sole Canadian cast member for Season 1 of the series, and only appeared on occasion.
